What is the topic of your WordCamp talk?

Start Your SEO Strong With 4 Key Pieces Of Content

Why do you think this is important?

This talk is important because man people overlook SEO and blogging in general. Whether your website is for a bank, nonprofit, clothing store, restaurant, or any other kind of organization, using the blog on your website to constructively insert keywords is the cornerstone of organic SEO. Even local SEO can be optimized using content and resources from local areas. Attending this talk will show how to use the blog feature on a WordPress site in a variety of ways and help generate ideas for how to fulfill the 4 key pieces of blog content each website should start with.

What’s your WordPress origin story?

I discovered WordPress first professionally after college as a content writer for a marketing agency, then as a travel blogger. When I was in grad school at American University, I attended the School of International Service through their first online Master’s Program, I decided to live in an RV and travel. My website was supposed to be built by a friend in my agency. When I was done with my trip and my site was still not live, I transitioned from content writer to mediocre WordPress designer and have continued advancing ever since.

How has WordPress impacted your world?

It’s allowed me to pursue my writing career in a completely unexpected format. I can create content in a wide variety of ways. In some cases, I even get to design the entire website the content is displayed on. It’s opened up my options to writing much more than I expected going into the marketing world.
